A independent UCE campus is at Perry Barr, Birmingham. UCE besides has Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD), the big faculty of art, project & media education in the United Kingdom, located at Gosta Green.

History
Birmingham Polytechnic

Prior to it became the university, by statute on March 6 1992, it was City of Birmingham Polytechnic, run by Birmingham City Council.

Although Birmingham experienced experienced the engineering school from either 1843-1853, this one was created within 1971 from five colleges:

Birmingham College of Art (originally a Birmingham Government School of Project, founded inside October 1843

Birmingham School of Music (developed as a department of the Birmingham and Midland Institute in around 1859)

Birmingham College of Commerce (originally the branch school of the Birmingham Central Technical indicator College, which went in to get Aston University

South Birmingham Technical indicator College (opened around 1961)

Northward Birmingham Technical indicator College (once Aston Technical indicator College).

Within 1975, three farther colleges were absorbed:

Anstey College of Physical Education (founded as a personal college for women inside 1897

Bordesley College of Education (founded the local education authority (LEA) Day Training College for women teachers within 1963).

City of Birmingham College of Education (founded as an LEA Emergency Teacher Expert training College around 1948).

Inside 1988, another was added:

Bournville College of Art.

Incorporation

University status

A title University of Central England around Birmingham was approved per Privy Council on the June 16 1992.

Birmingham & Solihull College of Nursing & Midwifery West Midlands School of Radiography.

Merger proposals

Inside November 2003, the UCE asked neighboring Aston University to consider a merger. This wwhen rejected, as was a separate proposal to merge by owning the University of Birmingham.
